The Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair is a huge event. I went this last February, and found Tons of beautiful products. Expect to spend minimum of 2 days walking the show, because I don't think its possible in one.
I found prices here in certain categories, be very reasonable. But, solid wood furniture, I found to be more expensive. The best values I came across were the metals, in particular aluminum.
The great thing about buying in India is the unique designs. There are a lot of buyers at this show, from everywhere, but the majority were European, and the products were focused more at the European market.
Another great thing about this show, is the orginization. You can get bus shuttles from most major hotels, which I found to be very useful. If your looking for a hotel that charges less then $250 per night, good luck! One place I heard good things about for $100 per night, was the Hotel Palace Heights. It is in the heart of New Delhi, but a quick taxi ride to a major hotel, and you can catch the bus no problem.
Last, if your in India, its hard to pass up the opportunity to experience India! If you can add on 3 extra days, you can visit the Taj Mahal and Jaipur. The sights are wonderful. The colors, the food, and the camels in the highway, I absoultly love it. You book a package for around 8,000 rupies ($200) including your own car and driver. |
