------5 Stars April 21, 2010-------
The crowds still are pouring into the Guangzhou Furniture Fair. This year I have the feeling that the local China furniture market is becoming more important to the suppliers, while at the same time the fame and recognition of the CIFF fair is becoming more important to international suppliers and buyers.
First thing I noticed at the 2010 spring show, it seems far fewer companies are displaying the “Export Only” signs outside their booths. I think that the local market is growing so quickly and most factories are excited by the potential for high profit margins. Some booths I enquired at, when I mentioned was from the US, said they were not interested! I was curious about this, so checked what they were selling their good for, and the prices were 5 times higher than what I would expect. I learned quickly to check if the factory was for local market, or export… (Some of the companies I mention are selling high end goods, including products imported from Europe)
On the other side, more and more suppliers from outside China are showing in Guangzhou, possibly as an alternate to the Singapore show. You can now find suppliers from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
Just across from the CIFF, was the newly launched JWSB permanent furniture showroom building, at the Polyworld Expo. Just a 2 minute walk away, when we visited, it seemed to have very little foot traffic. These showrooms are meant to be open all year to the trade, and I’m assuming local market and export market.
On a final note, after returning from Jakarta, I was reminded again how many companies are at the fair, and how much harder it is for a smaller importer to find Chinese factories who want to ship smaller quantity orders. They do exist in similar numbers to elsewhere in Asia, but finding them in the massive venue takes effort. Plan on at least 2 days at this fair if you want to cover it properly.
Also note that the Home Accents and Textiles portions of this fair also seemed larger to me.

This show is absolutely enormous!
I'd say you need 3 days, if you intend to walk the whole show, and you better walk fast.
100% in the new Pazhou complex, there have to be over 1000 furniture suppliers, and great products. Not only is every type of furniture represented at the show, but there is some really top notch products. These companies go out of their way, to impress, with styles you would expect in Highpoint or any of the major trade shows around the world.
There are also areas for home decor, and again, great looking product. But, not as many suppliers as at the Canton Fair, and pricing levels seemed higher.
I would say most product is aimed towards Eurpean buyers, and most foreigners at the show were from the Europe and the Middle East. But, Americans, don't worry, there are fantasic products for our markets, too. There is just so much to see, I didn't have enough time to really study the pricing levels.
People traveling to this fair, there are now a few hotels located right across from the fair, within walking distance. |
