I believe this spring marked the first of this yearly event. The overview is that there were around 200 suppliers, and the whole trade show could be walked in about 2 hours. So, plan on 1 day, since its pretty small...
I think for finding furniture in Vietnam, there is a show in October, which I add information on later. That show I was told has around twice as many vendors.
Also, note, it was 85% furniture manufacturers. Not a lot of Home Decor suppliers. I was looking for the lacquer ware and found a few suppliers, but I actually found more Vietnamese factories at the HK Gift Show, then at the VIFA.
Note to travelers: There are a lot of great hotels to stay at in District 1, near the river, and near the Sheraton Saigon hotel. You can get nice rooms with WiFi for around $70 per night. Also, this area is really interesting, with great food, shopping, and lots of foreigners are staying here, and it feels very safe.
Reasons to go to this show:
You want to meet some Vietnamese furniture manufacturers in person.
Reasons not to go to this show:
Very few home furnishings exhibitors
Duplicates HCMC EXPO held in October
The VIFA Fair is still quite small. March 2010 had about 120 exhibitors. 20-30 were suppliers of materials for production, another 20-30 were furnishings. If one is looking for Vietnamese furniture manufacturers and in is Southeast Asia in March then this show might be worth it. Use the VIFA website to research the exhibitors. There are website links for many of the exhibitors.

If you can go to the HCMC EXPO in October most of the same companies are there plus many home furnishings suppliers.
